Analytical/community: Earthcraft + Squirrel Nest (Odyssey, Premodern-legal) makes unbounded squirrel tokens, potentially by turn 2-3 (Draftsim; Chronicles). Historically banned in Standard in the March 1999 Combo Winter announcement and in Extended in September 1999; banned in Legacy since March 2003 (still banned).[1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
The story
Earthcraft (Tempest, 1997) was swept up in the March 1999 Combo Winter bans in Standard and banned in Extended later that year. After Odyssey's Squirrel Nest arrived it became a two-card infinite combo, and it has been banned in Legacy since 2003. Premodern, whose pool contains both cards, has banned it on every archived list; no reason was published.
